History

In 1975, Carl and Michelene Kay purchased a small 18-year-old monument company called Anthony Memorials on the south side of South Bend. At the time, Carl was a young man, with a young family, working as an accountant for a local firm. He had always wanted to own his own business, and so with a leap of faith, he and his wife began pouring their hearts into their new venture. Carl Kay Memorials truly made a start as the quintessential “mom and pop” shop. Michelene would take care of sales and Carl handled the heavy lifting, all while raising their three girls.

By 1990, the small monument company had become Carl Kay Memorials and was growing every day. Carl became known as a local businessman using his resources to serve others. He desired to be a helpful man, and was just that, especially to those that needed it most. After a tragedy, he would often donate his services or materials. Carl also honored the service people of the South Bend and surrounding areas with donations and commendations.

Eventually, Carl Kay Memorials would become what it is today. South Bend’s preferred monument provider, serving the memorial needs of every customer with compassion and care.
